DIY: Wiper Blades

I work for an automotive aftermarket retailer. As you can imagine we get asked to do all kinds of things most of which we cannot do for liability reasons. One thing we do a lot of is changing wiper blades. Originally this was done as a courtesy for people unable to do it themselves. Notice I said unable not unwilling. I really don’t mind helping people that honestly need help but I have an issue when someone is just being lazy. If you are physically and mentally capable of doing the task at hand why would you expect someone else to do it for you for free? Mechanics deserve to make a living too. If you don’t want to do it then pay a mechanic to do it. That is what they are there for. We, the sales people, do not get paid for such things.

Also, the knowledge level of a lot of the guys behind the counter is not as high as you might think it is. We’re not mechanics. We may or may not know more than you about cars, but we are in no way shape or form the end all of automotive advice. This may or may not be a shocker but most of the big boys don’t hire for product knowledge, they hire for customer service skills. Keep that in mind the next time you are asking that freckly faced kid what kind of oil he would recommend for your $60,000 truck. It would be a shame to ruin the motor just because you didn’t want to spend the money to have someone that knows what they are doing change it for you. That’s an extreme example but you get the point.

So with all that in mind here are couple of great videos on wipers for you DIY types.

Here is a video on how to inspect your blades…

And then one on how to change them.

The gift of knowledge. Spread the love.

We are now connected to Facebook!

Yes, I know. Those that know me personally. Family and friends are probably suffering all kinds of shock and ills due to the shock of me allowing myself to be assimilated to Facebook. Ha, really I just wanted to keep up with my oldest son but now I’m working on connecting this blog to Facebook. Perhaps that will be the next great step here. I’m tired of dealing with Google+ and it’s silly issues. I pretty much lost my username recognition. Hopefully I can get my YouTube channel all back to normal. That would be great!

Google+ and YouTube Frustrations

What in the world is going on at Google? First they made me change my username to my real name. I kinda got over that. It’s not like I’m an international spy or something but this latest bit has me a bit miffed. I was given the option to reestablish my old username on YouTube which i did. Well now I have two separate accounts which means when I post new videos on my ShutterAce account they do not automatically show up on my JimDeck account. Grrrr…..

I suppose if I could tranfer all of my Google+ settings to the ShutterAce account that would solve a lot of my problem. There are some other things I want to do out in the community other than modelling. If I could concentrate all of the modelling stuff on the ShutterAce account and free up the JimDeck account for other stuff perhaps I would be a happy man.

Enough ranting from me. Have a great day!
