This is perhaps the ultimate book on Ruess’s life and disappearance. If you know nothing of Ruess this one volume will fill you in on the whole story. For me the first part of the book dealing with Everett’s life seemed to drag on and on, but I am familiar with the story. The most interesting section was Part 2 that described the searches for Ruess and the theories regarding his disappearance. Part three deals with the gravesight that was originally thought to be Everett’s but ultimately wasn’t.
So, If you like true stories of wilderness adventure or of the American southwest you might want to give this one a test drive. Remember though that if you get bogged down in the details about Everett’s life it does get better.
